As you are probably already aware, it is illegal to send tyres to landfill sites in the UK and there are heavy fines for non-compliance. This EU Landfill Directive has been in place since 2006 and has helped the UK progress to nearly 100% of waste tyres being recovered and recycled. This was implemented with the aim of helping UK towards becoming a zero waste economy as tyre recycling comes under the prerogative of reusing valuable resources wherever possible. This helps reduce the negative impact on the environment.
Recycled tyre materials are reused in a variety of goods from outdoor running tracks, sports pitches and carpet and flooring underlays, just to name a few.
